WHAT IS AN APN?
APN (Access Point Name) is a gateway between a GSM, GPRS, 3G, 4G,5G mobile network and other network. The gateway determines the IP Address to assign to a device, the security to apply and if connecting to a public or private network.
APN TYPE
Public APN, configured by default on the mobile network and may be called “INTERNET” to provide mobile subscribers connectivity to the internet.
Private APN, Provided by Online Direct that is secured to specific services, and may also include selective secured internet access through Online Direct security services.
STRUCTURE OF AN APN?
APN consists of two parts:
1) Network Identifier: Defines the external network to which the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) is connected.
2) Operator Identifier: Defines the specific operator’s packet domain network in which the GGSN is located.

LOCATION BASED SERVICES – APN
Location based services is a location finding system that uses a GSM device’s signal. The location positioning is done by using GSM cell towers of local mobile phone service provider.
This positioning is however less precise when compared to GPS because it is an estimate of position in relation to the identified cell tower to which the sim is connected at the time of query.
